Diabetes and Positivity

A very good morning and a very warm welcome to all my readers present here. As the name goes and is it says that it is about Diabetes Fitness. Hi, I am Rohen R Murari, and my near and dear ones loves to refer me and call me as Ronnie. Today I would like to talk about my journey on Diabetes. I was in college’s second year and it was 3rd semester in which I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. It was a very shocking moment for me when I got to know about this. The only thing that leads me to face this disease was my willpower, you hear many people saying that diabetes is a lifestyle disease but its not a lifestyle disease because your sugar level in mgs going to high can affect to vein bursting and your sugar level going down can lead to hypoglycemia which can lead to cardio-vascular diseases and even neuron problems. Hypoglycemia can happen in high blood sugar but can be frequently shown or seen in Low blood sugar. It is a lifestyle disease when you maintain your sugar levels eat properly, are hydrated, and get a good amount of sleep. Apart from being a diabetic and a foodie. The thing that hurt me the most was when I was being diagnosed with diabetes because I saw that being a foodie and the best part about my life would be taken away from me and that was food, so to maintain that regime what I started with was that maintain my sugar level by keeping cheat days and that’s Saturday or a Sunday.

The Diabetes Philosophy That I Follow are as Follows-

Be in charge of yourself- What I have learnt from my life is that handling your life on your own terms leads to a positive life, taking right decision at right time is what leads to a right life. Exercising regularly, be mindful and be purposeful. Stop trusting insulin pumps to deal with diabetes create a positive mind frame around you and start bringing diabetes level down by exercising regularly.

Demand excellent healthcare- Excellent healthcare comes from within. Stop thinking that you are suffering from any disease just start thinking it that it is a blessing in disguise that is making you look good and is making you feel positive with a wrong intention, but that intention is not haunting and taunting you rather it is making you overcome challenges in life.

Make good choices, and you will reap rewards- Making a good choice do reap good rewards. I have been a petrolhead since I was five years old and whenever I feel low and depressed, I take out my car and go out for a drive that makes me happy and it gives me immense happiness within that no one can ever give. Eating properly and homecooked food gives me a chance to eat food from market and from a restaurant of my choice. Even I live a life that I used to live earlier before I was being diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes can not make me fall so easily, this is the statement that I keep on chanting within and still surviving with it.

Be a role model. My disease is not just about me. When I found out that I had diabetes, my whole family, in a sense, became diabetic.  All the sudden, we were reading nutrition labels and ingredients lists and measuring and weighing food, and we began to take exercise more seriously.  Now that I’m going to enter into my professional life soon, I have stopped and restrained myself of thinking about the same, what brings me back to life when I think about diabetes and why only why am I suffering from this disease is my watches and my immense love and craze for cars. I am being an only child that is suffering from diabetes is chaotic for my parents, but I am, and I will fight out this disease and I believe that it would never be able to bring me down, But on the other hand I understand that my every decision influences them in many ways, including with regard to their health. My friends often approach me with nutrition questions. I did not ask for diabetes, but I cannot imagine throwing away the opportunity to use my disease in a positive way to impact others.

How can you define your own diabetes philosophy?  Write down ideas as they come to you.  Think about what and who shaped you as a person with diabetes. What has worked well for you?  What important lessons have you learned?

You might want to print a copy of your diabetes philosophy and place it somewhere visible, like the front of your refrigerator or beside your computer at work, to remind you to stay inspired.    Use the life that you have been given, which includes diabetes, to propel yourself into a fantastic future: one of accountability, possibility, and hope.
